Another wonderful Swing weekend organized for you by Bruno and Silvia!
The teachers: Kevin & Jo (USA), Juan (Argentina) & Sharon (Australia)
and the extraordinary participation of the SWINGUYS!!!
Location: Arthema Studio, Via Vezzani 97 Rosso, Genova, Italy
Classes: more than 30 hours of classes in at least 2 levels: beginners/intermediate and it/adv, on friday (5 to 6 pm), saturday and sunday. Lindy Hop Classes and authentic dances from the Swing Era (everything you never heard about and you never saw in Italy, but that contributed to create the Lindy Hop as it is nowadays).
Parties: friday and saturday at Crazy Bull Caf� in Via Degola 4 - Genova
The Bands: The Nine Pennies e The NP Big Band
The djs: JOhn Vassallo from UK and Laurent Meirieu from France!
Competitions: Jack and Jill prelims on friday night and finals on saturday night with live music.
the Shows: 5 fabulous shows, including two authentic Burlesque Shows.
Accomodation: free at our dancers' homes (limited rooms); we made a deal with the San Biagio Hotel in Genova, close to the studio www.hotelsanbiagio.it - double room for 70 euros per night B/B;

Its almost Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown time! Please read through this entire email as there are some extremely important updates regarding the housing waiting list, hotel blocks, and choreography deadlines.

Trust us, you DO NOT want to miss Showdown�s first year in New Orleans. Its guaranteed to be one of the most unique events you've ever attended.

You don�t have to compete (unless you want to), you don�t have to take classes (unless you want to), and there will be LOTS of social dancing to be done (and we know all of you want to do that!).

Secure your spot at a - still reasonable price - by purchasing a ticket TODAY! The next price increase is on Sept 7th.

Some VERY IMPORTANT updates:

1) If you are doing the choreography showcase, it is now mandatory that you send us a video of your routine along with an audio recording. You have until September 10th to sign up for showcase and send us recordings and videos. After this time we will no longer accept entries into the showcase. This is extremely important, as the band needs sufficient time to learn new songs.

2) All members of your showcase team must purchase a weekend pass.

3) Anyone requesting housing from now on will be put on a waiting list. If you have the means, please reserve a hotel room.

4) The $119 Holiday Inn room rate is only good until Sept 8th!!!!!

5) There is no video pass required this year. Please be respectful when filming.

6) The Sunday night venue (House of Blues) strictly prohibits video recording (Its their rule, not a ULHS rule. Sorry!)

7) The House of Blues is 18+. If you are under 18 and attending ULHS please email us for alternative ticket packages. lindyshowdown@gmail.com

8) If you haven�t heard, Norma Miller, Chazz Young & Judy Pritchett are all coming to New Orleans to celebrate with us.

9) And lastly, at the after hours parties, or anytime you are dancing in a bar where there is no cover charge, you must buy at least one drink (it can be water or juice) and please please please, don't forget to TIP THE BAND. They appreciate it!

- Second Line: A New Orleans Style Jazz Dance demonstration & class at the New Orleans Jazz Historic National Park.

After his sell-out workshop in February, Lucky Skillen, blues dancer and teacher from NYC is coming back to Edinburgh on 8th of August for a day of workshops and social blues dancing.

The day includes general classes and advanced class with Lucky teaching microblues. Other workshops with Ben and Helen Birns including special lessons on lead/follow techniques and body movement.

After the workshops, we'll set you free to enjoy the Edinburgh Festival, so you get blues and festival going all in one day.

I don't know about any of you, but I�ve been obsessive compulsively keeping track of videos posted from the Frankie Manning 95th Birthday Festival. Mostly because I didn�t get to see a lot of it despite being at all the evening events from before start until after finish.

Eventually, I decided that it would be useful for me to figure out which videos had the best angles and it snowballed into this mini-project creating these annotated, easy to reference blog posts by day/night. So now you can re-live the event or feel like you've gone even if you didn't.

I should add that the official Frankie 95 DVD is being produced as we speak. You can order a copy by going to the Frankie95 website.

Swingin' Out:: Beantown Lindy Hop Camp 2009: June 25-July 2 (Boston, Massachussets, USA)
Beantown Camp is about one month away and there is still time to register! Camp is currently open for everyone although we would like to get more leaders, especially for Tracks 2 and 4, and more followers for the full week in Track 1.

We will miss Frankie at Beantown this year, although we are pleased to have our own opportunity to honor him. There will be a tribute to him coordinated by special guest Cynthia Millman who co-authored Frankie's autobiography "Frankie Manning: Ambassador of Lindy Hop". Plus we can all do our part to continue to spread the joy and that very positive spirit. As Frankie would say "Keep on Swingin'!"

Beantown runs from June 25 to July 2, back at the beautiful Endicott College campus in Beverly, MA. There are multiple packages and time periods to choose from for attending. You can find all of the details and latest information on the Beantown web site:

This is Chris from New York/North Carolina whom many of you know from Herrang. Myself and a friend are going to be coming through London en route to Vienna and then Herrang.
