1940's Jive competition,
Swing, Jive, Jitterbug, Sound of the big bands
Helping to raise awareness for the Poppy Appeal.
The year is 1940, Harry Roy, Jimmy Young and Vera Lynn are all topping the charts. Britain calls up two million men aged 19 - 27 to fight.
These are the War Years. Travel back at our Forties theme night: You will arrive through a realistic sand bag bunker entrance, manned by two World War II armed guards. Making their way through to the reception area, guests will be presented with their reception drink by uniformed World War 2 1940's officers. The theming in the main room is achieved with World War II backdrops including a blitzed London terraced house. Union Jack bunting and 1940's advertising posters will cover the walls to help create a realistic 1940's setting. Live music with local celebrity Maggie O’hara singing all of your WW2 favorites and a DJ playing all of your favorite big band greats, Glenn Miller, jive music, Swing and a jitterbug are order of the day.
Fish & Chips supper.

GNSH (Goodnight Sweetheart) has been quoted as perhaps one of the largest and friendliest swing dance camps in the UK, running around valentines every February. It marks the beginning of the swing dance calender, attracting the next generation of swing dancers. GNSH is dedicated to promoting African-American vernacular dances from the jazz era and has a top line up of International Teachers. In 2007 we attracted over 400 dancers of all levels from 5 continents and over 23 different countries for 3 days of workshops and all night dancing, till 6:00am. Workshops are primarily in Lindy Hop, with a wide range of tasters in Balboa, Shag, Tap, Charleston, Blues, Tango, Hip Hop, boogie etc and are all held in one location, the Magnificent "Haileybury", in Hertford, Hertfordshire, UK, which is located within 50mins drive from London Luton, Stansted or Heathrow airports for convenience. <. FORMAT OF EVENT: There are 5 levels of lindy hop classes ranging from Improvers to Advanced, Teachers and competitor levels, along with many other taster classes, allowing dancers to choose which class they prefer to take during the three days. Whatever you choose, you'll have up to 5 classes per day, if required. Although some decide to focus on less, throughout the weekend. goodnight sweetheart goodnight sweetheart goodnight sweetheart We recommend taking Friday and Monday morning off work, as classes start on Friday evening, followed by the welcome party, which includes the famous " World DJ Championships", with DJ's entering from all over the globe. On Saturday we resume workshops and complete the day with the Valentines Dinner and 1940's Ball, featuring cabaret entertainment. Last year we danced until 6:30am, but you can dance right through the night if you have the energy. Sunday classes are followed by our final supper together. If you have any energy left, then there's the Farewell Party, featuring a live band, to practice all that you've learnt and dance all night till we have run out of DJ's or people ! THE PACKAGE: goodnight sweetheart goodnight sweetheart goodnight sweetheart Goodnight Sweetheart (GNSH) is known for it's exceptional high quality, yet being one of the best value camps in the UK, as your package includes: - All workshops and taster classes
